Dinosaurs are divided into two major groups, and one of them is the Ornithischians, also known as the “bird-hipped” dinosaurs. These plant-eating giants were highly diverse, ranging from armored tanks like Ankylosaurus to horned and frilled dinosaurs like Triceratops, and even duck-billed grazers. What sets them apart is their unique hip structure, specialized teeth for chewing plants, and often impressive natural defenses, making them one of the most fascinating groups of herbivorous dinosaurs to study.
The other major group of dinosaurs is the Saurischians, often called “lizard-hipped” dinosaurs. This group includes both the towering, long-necked sauropods, like Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus, and the fierce, mostly meat-eating theropods, like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor. Saurischians are known for their diverse sizes, shapes, and lifestyles, from gentle plant-eaters to agile predators, and they are particularly famous because birds actually evolved from small theropods in this group, linking dinosaurs to the world we see today.
